Assistants
Hand the list-making to your assistant
Paste one address into Claude or ChatGPT and it can turn a week of recipe links into an aisle-sorted shopping list in your own account — then read the list back and tick things off while you shop.
The address to paste
https://www.thisweek.food/mcp
Next screen: your assistant’s connector settings, where that address goes. The four steps are just below.
Connect it in four steps
- Copy the address above.
- Add it to your assistant. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the address and click Add. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors, turn on Developer mode under Advanced settings, then add a custom connector — that path is on the paid plans.
- Sign in and approve. thisweek opens its own consent screen, names the assistant, and lists every permission below. Approving there is the whole sign-up.
- Ask for the list: “Start a shopping list from these two recipe links.”
What it can do
Build the list
- Read recipe links and say what is on each one before a list is started.
- Start a list from one to ten recipe links — each link is read and saved as a recipe.
- Add a recipe the assistant already has, with its ingredients and its steps.
- Add a bare line like “kitchen roll” when there is no recipe behind it.
- Rename a list, change the days it covers, or make it public.
- Copy a list’s recipes onto another week, for the one that looks like the last one.
Read it and work it
- List the active lists on the account, and read one back as its items, grouped by aisle.
- Tick items off, claim them for you, change a quantity or an aisle, and remove them.
- Read the diets, allergies and foods you have asked the app to check every recipe against, so it can warn you before one is added.
Work the recipes
- Rename a recipe, or change how much of it to make — double one for a bigger table.
- Take a recipe, and the ingredients it brought, off a list.
Plan the cooking
- Read the days a list covers, each day’s cooking budget, and the prep steps its recipes imply.
- Move those steps between days, change which day a dish is cooked, and set how many minutes a day can take.
- Set how long you usually cook on each weekday, so a day with no budget of its own already knows.
Keep favourites
- List the recipes you have saved outside any list.
- Save a recipe or a whole list as a favourite, or take one off.
Share a list
- Create a share link for a list you own, at read-only or edit — a link keeps working until it is revoked.
- Revoke a link so it can no longer be redeemed, and read back an owned list’s live links.
Put a list away
- Archive a week that is over — its contents freeze, and the people it was shared with can still read it.
- Bring an archived list back, or delete one for good.
Know the account
- Read your name, email and which plan you are on — read-only, and the only thing it can tell the assistant about you.
What you approve
One connection asks for all eight permissions. Our own screen lists them, in these words, before you decide:
- lists:readRead your shopping lists, their items and their schedules
- lists:writeRead the recipe links it is given, create and change shopping lists, and add recipes or items to them
- items:writeCheck off, claim and change items on your lists
- schedule:writeChange which days your planned meals are cooked on
- favorites:writeSave and remove your favourite recipes
- sharing:writeCreate and revoke share links for your lists
- account:readRead your account and plan details
- account:writeSet how long you usually have to cook on each day of the week, and which list emails you get
Deny the screen and nothing is connected: the assistant gets no access at all and is never told why. Disconnecting later is one click in Settings. The one permission worth thinking about before you approve is the ability to create and revoke share links, since a link hands your list to whoever holds it.
Before you sign up for anything
Do not sign up with an email address to use this — you approve the connection with the sign-in you already have, and an assistant that asks you to register has taken the wrong door. Connecting an assistant needs no new account and no new email address: send it back here with the address above.
